Naked Songs

These two clips come from a VHS copy I found of Naked Songs, a performance film of singer/songwriter Ricky Lee Jones I edited back in 1996 while living in San Francisco.  It features her playing stripped down live versions of songs from throughout her career, inter-cut with documentary clips of her life from childhood to present day.

It played a few film festivals and was supposed to be released by Warner Brothers Records along with the live album of the same name, but for some legal or creative reason I never understood, the film was shelved.

It was directed by Ethan Russell, the celebrated rock photographer who has captured iconic images of just about every massive rock band from the ’60s and ’70s, including The Doors, The Who and The Beatles, among many others.  Check out his portfolio and you’ll likely recognize his images from classic posters and album covers.
